In the boys category there were still three players battling for the victory until hole 18, while Ashley Fowler extended her lead early in the final round.
Bob Geurts (NL), Hannes Ruhnau (DE) and Branden Dietzel (DE) made sure that the spectators had to follow their flight to get a close look on how exciting junior golf can be. The three switched top position from hole to hole with Geurts pulling the longest string in the end. With a second round under par (-1) due to a steady back nine and an overall score of -6 he secured his second win on the Global Junior Golf tour this year.
With Nicole Bonde Lorup shooting a final round in 67 strokes (-5) -which is a new course record at the Kempense Golf Club- it could still be tensive at the girls leaderboard. Unfortunately for Lorup it was still not enough because Ashley Fowler, leader after day two, showed some strong golf bringing in a round in level par (72). Fowler winning with a three shot lead proved that her game is ready to win tournaments.
The field at the Campine Junior Golf Classic consists of earlier Global Junior Golf winners like Nicole Bonde Lorup (Tulip Golf Challenge – 2017), Brandon Dietzel (RB German Junior – 2018) and current leader Bob Geurts (European Spring Junior – 2018).
‘We are looking back at a great tournament thanks to the Kempense Golf Club and her greenkeepers and volunteers’ says Martin van der Schans from Pro Golf Events. ‘Next year we are aiming for more Belgian players to really lift the tournament. We also would love to do another tournament for Global Junior Golf to to offer Dutch and Belgian players a swing with three tournaments’.
