Sintra August, 2019 Sports enthusiasts in Portugal will have a unique opportunity to assess golf’ssuperstars of tomorrow when Penha Longa Resort hosts the Atlantic Youth Trophy (13 – 16 February 2019) and the Portuguese Intercollegiate Open from February 08 to 11.

The events, just 30 minutes away from the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, will showcase outstanding golf from players from around the world in the Global Junior Golf Tour (for those aged between 12 and 18) and the 21golfleague (for those aged 19 to 21).

David Martinez, Penha Longa Resort General Manager said: “It is a great honour to host both the Portuguese Intercollegiate Open and the Atlantic Youth Trophy once again. This is the second time in a row we host both tournaments and the fourth time that the Portuguese Intercollegiate Open takes place here. The opportunity for spectators to see some the best young talent in the world in action is quitespecial and I’d encourage people to come to Penha Longa and watch.

The resort is based in the heart of the stunning Sintra Mountains and was once the retreat of the Portuguese Royal family. This rich history is reflected in the 14th century Monastery, protected historic ruins and medieval gardens that have become historical landmarks of both the resort and its two golf courses.

These events will be played on Penha Longa’s famous Atlantic golf course, designed by renowned designer Robert Trent Jones Jr. Home to the Portuguese Open four times, these 18 holes, par 72 championship course, are well integrated in the landscape. The course offers a challenge to all golfers, as well as breathtaking views of the ocean with Sintra and Cascais in the foreground, but also the surrounding 220-hectare Natural Park.

Penha Longa has long enjoyed an international reputation for major international golfing events, hosting several PGA tournaments and international accolades. Last year the resort achieved 19th place in the ‘Top 100’ list of European Golf Resorts published by Golf World and was named ‘Best Luxury Golf Resort in Europe 2019’.

Penha Longa Resort – The estate of Penha Longa in Portugal, located within a 545-acre/220 hectare National Park on the southern Sintra Mountains has been a place of sanctuary for centuries. The Catholic fathers founded their monastery here, finding peace and tranquility in its setting whilst the Royal Family came in the summer months to find a cool refuge from the heat of nearby Lisbon. Today, the breathtakingly beautiful resort encompasses a luxurious hotel, a nineteenth century palace originally founded as a monastery in the fourteenth century, two spectacular golf courses, a superb Penha Longa Spa and eight exceptional dining facilities, including two Michelin Star restaurants, LAB by Sergi Arola and Midori.
