Campine Junior Golf Classic - Belgium is ready for you!!!
Interview with Mr. van Baelen, Kempense Golf Belgium - Campine Junior Golf Classic 2017
GJG: Mr. van Baelen, thank you for
hosting the first Belgian event! Please tell us, what can players expect at and
during the Campine Junior Golf Classic?
Mr. van Baelen: Players may expect a state of the art golf centre with a mature, over 30
years old, parkland golf course. with a completely renewed
infrastructure. Including new clubhouse house, golf
shop, weather proof driving range with golf simulator, practice green and
bunkers. The organising committee may expect
modern facilities with various meeting rooms provided with all modern communicating
techniques. And maybe even more important even, both
players and organisers may expect a warm and hospitable welcome at a friendly golf
club in the Belgian Kempen region.
Q: How important is junior golf at
the Kempense GC? Mr. van Baelen: The Kempense GC was traditionally strongly focussed on senior golfers. When
the Van Baelen family acquired the club some five
years ago, one of their first priorities was to reintroduce and facilitate a junior
section of the golf club, which has since then grown constantly.
GJG: Looking at the course, which is
the hole or swing of holes, defining the loss or win? Where need to players to
be patient? Mr. van Baelen: With three
difficult opening holes a careful start pays off. From then on, the first nine
holes provide good birdy opportunities. The
eight is probably the real landmark hole (island). The back nine par 37 is a stern test for any
player, but great games have been ruined at the finishing 18th.
GJG: Will it be a long hitter course
or do you need to be straight of the tee? Mr. van Baelen: With five par 5’s it may look a course for the long
hitters but that is a bit deceptive, straight of the tee is
definitely a must.
GJG: What do the players need to see
or do when they are at the Kempense GC in Mol? Mr. van Baelen: The
region has a lot to offer. Opposite the road is a big holiday park with a large indoor tropical swimming pool. Nearby are
great sights like Postel Abby or Zilvermeer lake and water park. The Kempense GC has
a great simulator to play some extra rounds on famous courses.
GJG: What do you think will be the
winning score for girls and boys after three days? Mr. van Baelen: Provided the weather is reasonable (and it normally
is), the winning boys score could be around 230. Girls may need a few shots
more. Probably in the region around 240.
Thank you Mr. van Baelen for your time, we are looking forward to see you all in Belgium!!!
